Let’s talk Micron
A niche word, jargon. A word you may have only heard in the wool shed. A micron is a millionth of a metre and is the way we measure wool.
Merino is *typically* a finer wool in comparison to other sheep breeds, coming in under 25 microns. This makes it great for products like fine clothing, baby products, suits and accessories - as it can be super soft. You often hear people say they don't like wearing wool jumpers as they are "scratchy" - Merino won't be what they are wearing.
Strong wool is more likely to come of a breed like Romney, Perendale or Corridale. With a micron above 28 these wools are more used in carpets, upholstery and insulation, or some of the wool blend jumpers as we mention above.
